The Champs Elysees in Paris

The Champs Elysees is without doubt one of the most prestigious and famous avenues in the world, and is very popular among the rich and famous for a shopping trip with its luxury shops and specialty coffee fantastic.

Its official name is the Avenue des Champs-Elysees and is the most wide in Paris, but is actually the second widest in Europe, after the Unirii Boulevard in Bucharest. But this possibility is not just a place to the rich, even though after New York's Fifth Avenue, Champs Elysees is the second most expensive strip of real estate in the world with rent being as high as £ 600,000 or more a year for only an area of about 100 square meters.

No visitor to Paris is to miss a tour This beautiful tree lined avenue to soak up the atmosphere, which hosts numerous special occasions, like finishing the famous Tour de France and held military parades Bastille Day, which is the largest parades in Europe.

You can no doubt imagine why there are famous names such as Guerlain Parfumerie with its beautiful curved staircase and turn of the century elegance, Laduree tearoom, the Lido, which is famous for its risque shows and the flagship store Louis Vuitton all have prominent positions.

In addition there are also chains stores like Gap and Nike, a Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream House, restaurants fast food like McDonalds, more banks, car show rooms, hotels, etc, along with some very nice cafes and restaurants.

However, if you want to visit the very famous designer shops like Chanel, Christian Dior, Cartier, etc then you will have to venture to one of the fashionable side streets such as the Avenue Montaigne or the Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré, but taking into account a large number of shops in Paris are closed on Sundays.

Now, when one looks back at the history of the Champs Elysees, until the 17th century was originally fields and market gardens until Marie de Medici decided to extend the axis of the Tuileries Palace garden with an avenue of trees. Then in the latter part of 1600 André Le Notre, who designed the gardens of the Chateau de Versailles, designed for the street that had a great view from the gardens of the Tuileries.

In the 18th century that lasted from the Place de la Concorde with its obelisk to the Place Charles de Gaulle, formerly the Place de l'Etoile, who is now the location of the famous monument, the Arc de Triomphe.

The Campos Campos now extends for approximately two miles long and had sidewalks and street lighting added in around 1828, when the city of Paris was charge. Lovely fountains were also built and have not been numerous transitions, most recently in 1994, when the roads were widened for the comfort of pedestrians to be further from the continuing circulation.

So when you're in Paris, why not start at the famous historic Arc de Triomphe and then walk all the way down the avenue until you reach the Tuileries Gardens, which are a part of the famous Louvre museum call. However, when the legs feel tired and hurt the feet, can be ideal for a relaxing coffee or lunch in one of the many cafe terraces dotted along the Champs Elysees, but these can be quite expensive, but venture into one of the bars or restaurants in a side street can provide a much better value for money, or, alternatively, if you just feel hungry, and then there are even mobile bars and stalls serving beverages and burgers, etc that will not burn a hole in your pocket.

The Champs Elysees is also great on a nice day, but not much coverage, can be a real slave when it is pouring with rain, but for us the most magical moment is at Christmas when the committee meet and adorn the avenue with many lights.
