If I store water in a food container is not safe, can be purified and secured to drink later?

I mean the elimination of substances chemical filters are plastic, not only boiling to kill the bacteria.

Some filters would be for the task, but these are expensive and not are readily available. Specifically, a hospital grade filtration system could purge the chemicals from the water … but then you probably end with deionized water, which should not be drinking for a different reason.
