How to choose the breed of dog with the temperament suited to your needs
by Dennis Fisher
Different breeds of dogs vary considerably in temperament.
To decide which breed would be best suited to your needs and requirements family, the distinctive temperament of the breed should be an important factor in their choice.
Obviously we can not ignore the practical considerations such as the size of your garden and that the facility has for the dog to exercise. Some breeds of dogs, of course, require more exercise than others. But do not ignore natural temperament, characteristic of the breed you have chosen.
In order to make the task of choosing the breed of dog that best suits your needs a little easier, I made a list of the eight most popular dogs – according to AKC registration figures – and given a brief description of his temperament.
The following list is current order of popularity.
1. Labrador Retriever.
Then Labrador is a medium size dog about 22 inches tall with very expressive eyes. An important reason for its popularity to the fact that in general a fair, friendly animals is particularly good with children.
There are farmers who have been trained to be quite effective watchdogs, but this is not a characteristic of the breed. But if it is a lovely, kind, loving, easy to administer and easy to train pet is required by the Labrador is an excellent choice. Farmers are understandably breed of choice with many organizations eye dog.
A Labrador a dog can be a bit greedy and there is a tendency for the dog too fat if the diet is not controlled.
2. Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is a pretty big, friendly animals, standing about 24 inches at the shoulder and weighing approximately 80 lbs.
This is a very intelligent, very lively, active race. It has a nice temperament, friendly and affectionate and loves children.
The Golden Retriever is very quick to learn and responds well to training.
It should be mentioned however, that the Golden Retriever is not a natural guard dog. It is a race that seems to have inherited from protection, the protective instinct. It is possible that this could be inculcated in the training correct but is not a natural feature of the race.
3. Yorkshire Terrier.
This handsome little terrier, with a beautiful silky coat, although only about 7 pounds. weight, has a reputation as one of the bravest young dogs ready to tackle anything.
He is very intelligent, pleasant and friendly and can be easily integrated in a very small house or apartment. Does not require a lot of exercise.
The "Yorkie" as he is affectionately known is undoubtedly a terrier in nature. It is bright, intelligent, lively and alert, and despite its small size the makes a very good guard dog for protection.
4. German Shepherd Dog
This is the race that has been my favorite for many years.
There is not an animal so eager to please, so easy training and as adaptable as the well-bred German Shepherd.
But I would like to emphasize the "well educated" aspect. In this sense I must stress that I believe that temperament is largely an inherited trait. It is therefore imperative that before selecting a German Shepherd puppy, you know something about their parents and be absolutely sure they have sound temperaments, trust.
If possible make a point to see both father and mother.
A German shepherd dog is not for everyone! Not the type of animal that can be ignored, except when the food and left in the backyard to fend for himself.
The German Shepherd craves attention. It is an animal that wants to be part of the family, which can be a definite disadvantage if not the time to pastors the care they need.
This does not mean you have to spend all his free time training the dog. But it does mean that you will to spend a good amount of time training German Shepherd basic obedience. The dog must learn to respect you. This is of vital importance and comes with training.
If you are willing to spend the time and effort in what German Shepherds extra attention they deserve, you will be able to demonstrate exceptionally good qualities they have inherited from their ancestors.
5. Beagle
This is a dog that originated in England and was used to hunt rabbits. It is a very intelligent, gentle animal that is easy to train. It also has a very good sense of smell.
Although smaller than most hunting dogs, standing only about 14 inches tall and weighing under 30 pounds, however, a resistant animal. It has white fur with black spots and fire and big hanging ears.
The breed became popular leisure through the "Peanuts" comic strip, which featured "Snoopy", makes a lovely family pet because it is particularly fond of children.
The Beagle is also very alert and makes an excellent watch dog.
6. Daschund.
The Daschund, a race that originated in Germany, was originally bred to hunt badgers. Despite its small size, was also used to hunt foxes. Because of its long body, skin loose and keen sense of smell, the animal was able to burrow underground.
Although quite small, no more than 25 pounds, is a robust and muscular animal
The Daschund is a pleasant temperament, fun loving, undemanding and very loving. They require a lot of exercise and content to lie around.
In fact because this should not be overfed otherwise tend to become overweight, which of course is unhealthy for any race.
They are also willing to bark unnecessarily. But his can be corrected with training. They are intelligent animals and although sometimes tend to be stubborn, they will respond to the company, but the gentle correction.
7. Boxer
This race also originated in Germany and was the result of crossing the variety of dogs bred bulls and terriers.
A well-bred Boxer has much to offer. It is an animal that is exceptionally good with children. Due to its size – about 24 inches at the shoulder and between 65 and 70 pounds, this muscled dog, with a proper training can be a useful watchdog.
A well-bred Boxer is muscular, very athletic, beautiful animal.
A decisive advantage of the Boxer is the fact that fur is short and requires very little attention in so far as preparation is concerned.
Boxers are likely to be trained, and several have done reasonably well in competitive obedience work. Sometimes they are not as quick to respond to commands as other breeds of dogs work, but once they understand the command that is rarely forgotten.
They are very loving adorable animals usually get along well with other dogs.
.
8. Poodle.
The poodle is the reputation of being the smartest all races – with good reason. This is a remarkable animal intelligent, very sensitive and very easy to train.
It is very playful lovable animal often attributed to a family member. Because it is also suspicious of strangers can be a very good protector. Though sometimes a noisy dog, this state of alert can be very useful when there is also a larger home watchdog. The Poodle is alert to any unusual noises.
A Poodle big advantage is the fact that it is the only race that does not shed coat. This can be invaluable if it becomes a member of the family who is allergic to dog hair. But because the dog does not shed its coat, the dog should be brushed regularly to prevent matting of the coat.
Because of his exceptional intelligence the poodle can be very easy to train.
Because of space restrictions in this article only provides basic data on those races. To learn more about these and many other races, is a great wealth of information at the following website http://www, freedigadvice.com
