How often is safe to use soap free dog shampoo?

I have a beagle puppy five months old. Start smelly about 7 days from your bathroom. My family tells me that our soap shampoo bathe once a week. Our vet told us twice a month, but she did not know we have a soap free shampoo. So is it safe to use soap, shampoo VAR TOP free weekly puppy? Furthermore, this is off topic, but what I do if my puppy gets a small cut that does not bleed too much?
