Is fibromyalgia a service dog for you?
There have been numerous studies showing the dogs and animals in general help relieve stress and anxiety and reduce blood pressure inpatients with chronic diseases. But what can a service dog for you and fibromyalgia are an appropriate complement to your life?
First, having a pet requires a commitment on behalf of the owner. Dogs can live for 10 to 15 years and must be fed, trained, exercised and loved. You should also make sure your garden if you have one, is completely fenced and household hazardous objects are placed beyond the reach of the dog.
Service dogs for fibromyalgia patients is not uncommon, however you will be legally recognized as having a disability under the ADA of the year 1990 (Americans with Disabilities Act) to request one.
If you already have the necessary documentation disability must complete the forms at its center selected service dog and be prepared for a long wait, there can be long waiting lists. It can also be an expensive procedure to make sure you understand what you are costs.
There may be the possibility of disability insurance that covers all or part of the costs involved, so it is worth doing some research in this first.
Think also, they need your service dog. Retrievers are dogs common services as take well to training and can do things like retrieve items, help with household chores, open doors and turn on and off light switches. All of what would be a great help if their mobility is reduced.
But they also provide more practical help, service dogs can provide a reason for getting up in the morning and help patients become more assets. Having a constant companion can ease the pain, like a dog gets the focus away from pain and have shown to improve energy levels and sense of wellbeing.
Minor races are also being used as service dogs, but for very different reasons – warmth of her body.
Patients with fibromyalgia was introduced a Xoloitzcuintli or Xolo (small Mexican hairless dog) and found that within 15 minutes the dog lying on his wrists with the pain disappeared. Xolo are renowned for their body heat off and she went on to have one as a service dog, trained to lie around the neck and shoulders.
