Smooth Collie

I have a 6 mo old collie whos fur is kind of medium length and kind of smooth not long. Is this normal?

Will his coat fill out? How long does it take. I’ve never had a collie before.
He is a rough coat collie, I thought I had that in the question

You are actually luckey to have a collie with longer fur at six months. Many collies dont start to develop a coat until a year old their coat wont be fully developed until they are around 2. I know the first time I hade a rough collie you could easily mistaken him for a smooth at a year old. We where all like ummm… was there some sort of mix up here? It was only a couple inches long, he ended up with one of the nicest collie coats Ive seen. My advise, get him used to the brush now, you’ll need it later on lol.
