How to Tie dye stain color?

We tie dyed shirts at work this week and only a couple of them turned out. Was used RIT dye powder and liquid, and then machine wash in cold. Everyones' disappeared and where once was white, turned green or purple .. any suggestions?

Remember to use sodium carbonate. It is this material that prevents color fading. When you begin to Tie Dye, who wants to get the shirt a little damp. Then tie it and soak it in soda ash for 20 minutes. After removed, and dye. After the dye is dry (after 12 hours) then rinse the color first and then remove the rubber bands.
